WELCOME TO MB2 TENNIS

For the 2024 season we welcome back coach Hugh Flanagan as our tennis pro. Hugh has been coaching tennis for the last 25 years at the Naperville Tennis Club, and the last 15 years at Maplebrook II. He has achieved a 4.5 ranking and played on many USTA teams. He has coached all ages and most levels, including many college players, IHSA state level players, and many USTA players. Coach Hugh has a passion for tennis and strives to make it fun and challenging while helping those improve their game and develop a love for the sport!

New this year, Kim Richards will be joining our coaching staff and leading the kids lessons. Kim played varsity tennis at DePaul university. After raising two children, Kim decided to channel her love for the sport into teaching and embarked on a coaching career becoming a certified teaching professional. Kim has been working for the Naperville Park District and Naperville Tennis Club since 2021 helping numerous young athletes refine their techniques, embrace their mental resilience, and achieve their full potential.

Summer Tennis Session 1 Signup Information

The schedules for Summer Tennis Sessions 1 and 2 is shown below along with the link to the sign up form. Summer session 1 begins June 3 and runs for 3 weeks with makeups held the following week. No lessons will be held the week of July 4. Summer session 2 begins July 8 and runs for 5 weeks with makeups held the following week (sign up will be posted closer to the start of session 2). All classes are $20/hr for members and $28/hr for non-members except for teams which are priced below for the full summer.

Class Schedules

Parent/Child – In this program, children will learn basic tennis skills using fun tennis-based activities.  The parent and the instructor will work together to help them learn agility, balance, and coordination.  (Ages 3-5).   Each participant should bring a tennis racket.

Kids Beginner 1 – Come have fun and learn to hit the ball.  Lessons geared to ages 5-7. Lessons will be held twice per week in the summer sessions.

Kids Beginner 2 – To create an interest and enthusiasm for the game and to make class times fun; to develop body control and eye-hand coordination through drilling, rallying and competing; and to introduce all of the strokes used in the game.  (Ages 8-12) Lessons will be held twice per week in the summer sessions.

Kids Advanced Beginner – To begin to shift more focus on stroke technique through drilling and playing on a full 72’ court; to encourage the “competitive spirit”; and to teach the scoring and actual game of tennis.  All strokes are covered. Lessons will be held twice per week in the summer sessions.

Kids Intermediate – To build a greater interest in competing and to introduce Quick Start graduates to regulation adult tennis balls. Strokes are reviewed with more attention to technical details.  Low level drills are used to help improve footwork and coordination.  Lessons geared to ages 11-14. Lessons will be held twice per week in the summer sessions.

Junior High School Team

The team drills will focus on developing the skills necessary to be a successful match player.  Team practices will be held focusing on skills needed to compete. Matches will be held on Fridays. Rides will NOT be provided for the Friday matches.

Team Practices begin Monday, June 3 and conclude August 7. There will be no matches or practices the week of July 4.

Junior High Team  –  Qualifications: Elementary and junior high aged players who have the ability to score, serve, and play full court points (there are no age limits and mixed doubles is permitted).

$390 for members, $470 for nonmembers for the full summer.

Team Drills M, W 4:00 – 5:00 pm

High School Team

The team drills will focus on developing the skills necessary to be a successful match player.  Team practices will be held focusing on skills needed to compete. Matches will be held on Fridays. Rides will NOT be provided for the Friday matches.

Adult Beginner/Adv. Beginner – This class is for the beginner who has had little instruction and play.  Objective:  To introduce and practice all strokes, including more demanding ones; and to work on physical conditioning, footwork and coordination.  USTA NTRP rating of 2.0 – 2.7

Adult Adv. Beginner/Intermediate – This class for the slightly more experienced tennis players.   Take your game to the next level with more advanced drills. Rating of 2.8 – 3.4

Adult Adv. Intermediate – This class only for experienced tennis players.   Take your game to the next level with more advanced drills (USTA NTRP of 3.3-3.8)

Ladies Team B1

Drills are twice each week, for 90-minutes each. The team drills will focus on developing the skills necessary to be a successful match player. There will be two hours of match play on Fridays – with away matches within the Naperville/Aurora area.

B1 Team practices on Mondays (6:30 – 8:00pm) and Thursdays (6:30 – 8:00pm)

Intro to Tennis for Kids with Special Needs

This no-cost lesson will help kids learn the basics of tennis through fun drills and one-on-one coaching. (Ages 5-18).

Objective:  To help kids with special needs learn the fundamentals of the game and to make class time fun; to develop body control and eye-hand coordination through drilling, rallying and competing on both 36’ and 60’ courts.
