Swim Lessons are a great opportunity for kids to learn to swim and improve basic swimming skills. Lessons start with the first session in early June for two weeks. Lessons run Monday through Thursday. Any makeup classes will be held on Friday. There are 3 sessions. The dates are as follows:

  • The 30 minute lesson times each day will be at 10:25 (all levels), 11:00 (all levels), and 11:35 (levels 1-4 ONLY).
  • The fee for members is $65/session. The fee for non-members is $80/session.
  • The appropriate swim lesson level may be reviewed with the staff during registration.

MB2  Swim  Lessons  Level  Requirements

Must master EVERY skill in the level to move onto the next!

Level  1 – Minnow

  • Assisted Front Float
  • Assisted Back Float
  • Submerge Full Head Under Water
  • Front Swimming
    • Modified doggy paddle with flotation device (kick legs and arm movement)
  • Pool Enter and Exit
    • Able to get in and out of the pool on their own, without using the stairs

Level  2 – Guppy

  • Back Float
  • Front Float
  • Basic Freestyle
    • Flutter kick, arms rotating in circular motion, front float
    • Coordinated breathing is not required
  • Basic Backstroke
    • Flutter kick, arms rotating in circular motion, back float
  • Tread Water
  • Jump in Pool
    • Jump in pool, get back to the wall, and exit unassisted

Level  3 – Jellyfish

  • Tread Water – 30 seconds
    Basic Breaststroke – flutter kick

    • Scoop, pull, reach
  • Basic Freestyle
    • Flutter kick, alternating arms
    • Basic coordinated breathing
  • Squat Dive
    • Squat dive into pool, streamline arms, swim to wall and exit
  • Basic Backstroke
    • Flutter kick, alternating arms

Level  4 – Starfish

  • Freestyle – 15 yards
    • Proper freestyle arms, flutter kick
    • Coordinated breathing to the side
  • Backstroke – 15 yards
    • Proper backstroke arms, flutter kick, swim in straight line
  • Breaststroke
    • Breaststroke kick
  • Safety Falls
    • Jump into water feet first, swim to the wall, and exit the pool
  • Dives

Level  5 – Seal

  • Freestyle for 25 yards
    • Arms alternating, flutter kick, coordinated breathing to the side
  • Wiggle-worm for 25 yards
    • Both feet together with arms to the side
  • Backstroke for 25 yards
    • Shoulder rotation, flutter kick
    • Head tilt
  • Breaststroke for 25 yards
    • Leg motion follows: up, out, around, together
  • Standing Dives

Level  6 – Dolphin

  • Freestyle
    • Skill refinement – proper arm technique
    • Skill refinement – breathing
    • Skill refinement – kicking
  • Breaststroke
    • Coordinated arm and leg movements
    • Coordinated breathing
  • Backstroke
    • Skill refinement – proper arm technique
    • Skill refinement – body rotation
  • Flip Turns
    • Freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke
  • Butterfly
    • Proper butterfly arms
    • Wiggle worm
